FAQ

  • The western wall of my house is exposed to rains. I have tried all types of waterproofing paints, but continue to have water leakage problem, do you have any products for this?

Only applying waterproofing paints will not solve your problem. It needs detailed investigation to find out the actual cause. If there are any cracks, it needs to be determined, in the first place, as to why cracks have developed in the walls. A well designed and constructed structure should have no reason to developed cracks. If the cracks are larger and there is some doubt the structural design then show the wall first to a local structural engineer to rule out any structural inadequacies. However if the cracks are small and there is no problem with structure and if the consultant recommends use of a flexible crack-filling compound then CRACKSEAL can be used for filling the cracks. Once cracks are filler, clean the surface and apply WATERGUARD S in the two coats at an interval of 4-5 hours. It is an acrylic based elastomeric coating that has been specially formulated for external heavy duty waterproofing applications. It is UV resistant, durable, ready to use and can be tinted to match the shade of your building. It is important that, if the cracks exist on the surface above your floor then they also need to be treated.
  • I live on the 14th floor of my building. The damp patches in my drawing room are spoiling the decor. What can I do to stop them?

Before treating damp patches it is always advisable to investigate the root cause-such as porous concrete, cracks in external plaster, leakage in concealed plumbing, etc, and rectifying the same before commencing treatment. Subsequently the damp patched can be treated by WATERGUARD DAMPROOF which can also be applied on wet condition and does not allow further appear. IT is two component water based epoxy coating. Before applying WATERGUARD DAMPROOF, removal of paint on the affected are is a must. Ensure that WATERGUARD DAMPROOF is applied on the bare plastered surface. Apply two coats at an interval of 2-3 hours. Repainting can be done on the effected are after 1 day. However it is advisable to allow curing of 7 days.
  • I fed up with the bitumen waterproofing coat on my terrace, which melts & cracks every year causing leakage. Do your have any alternative, which can give me peace?

That?s a natural disadvantage with coal tar as it melts and cracks with variation in temperature. The existing coal tar has to be chiseled & removed completely till the concrete surface is visible. WATERGUARD CL the ideal solution. It is an elastomeric, flexible, does not crack and does not require heating before application. It is a ready to use coating and can be applied by paintbrush.
  • I have a newly constructed terrace. What should I do to make it waterproof?

Good concrete is always durable and theoretically no waterproofing is required. But since the quality of concrete is uncertain, it may be porous and allow water to percolate. An impermeable waterproofing system is recommended which acts as a barrier against water ingress. WATERGUARD A high performance two component cementitious polymer based waterproof coating. Because of its unique abilities it can take care of positive and negative pressure heads. Ensure that slab is thoroughly clean and pre-wetted. Allow surface water to dry and apply 1st coat of mixed WATERGUARD A of key application after 1st coat to dry for 4 to 6 hrs then apply 2nd coat of WATERGUARD A. Allow final coat to air cure for 72 hrs. Overlay cement mortar screed admixed with FAIRCRETE RMW to a thickness of 15 to 25 mm. Because of its capability to withstand negative pressure head, it is ideal for basement applications too. We recommended WATERGUARD A on the top and inside of parapet wall and “wata” for all around effective waterproofing.
  • My overhead tank is leaking. How do I stop it?

If it is a RCC tank, leakages could be due to porous concrete which causes water to percolate. Use WATERGUARD A as it forms a impermeable coat. It is high performance two component system and can be applied directly by a paintbrush on the inside surface including bottom of tank and cured fully for 72 hours. Apply 10-12 mm plaster over WATERGUARD A film over bond coat prepared with FAIRCRETE RMW and cement. This will not allow water to come in contact with film and protect it from any physical damage. The treated tank filled with water for the first time should be flushed before using the water, Before WATERGUARD A is applied, fill all mortar cracks with polymer modified mortar by making „v? grove cut along the cracks. In case of M.S. tank, empty out water completely and plug the hole with FAIRSEAL EPOXY STICK which is a two component epoxy based sealing putty. Once set, it becomes very hard and can withstand water pressure.
  • During the monsoon our terrace is frequently filled up with water causing leakage below. Why does this happening? What is the solution?

There could be mainly two reasons that cause ponding of water on the terrace. First, improper/ineffective slope of the terrace, due to which water will not be guide to the near by drain and second, blockage in rain water down take pipes. If the slope of the terrace is not proper, remove existing brick bat coba. Clean the surface completely and apply FAIRCRETE SB(L) mixed with cement in the proportion of 1:1.5, in two coats on the slab. After 72 hours, overlay new brick bat coba with proper slope to the near by drain pipes. Add FAIRCRETE RMW in the mortar (150 ml per 50 kg of cement) for filling of gaps in the brick bat coba. Clear all the rain water drain pipes and ensure proper sealing of pipes at the junction of parapet wall.
  • I have a godown with AC sheet roofs, which keeps leaking. Do you have any treatment?

WATERGUARD CE coating specially formulated for external water proofing application. It is a ready to use, single component pack with good chemical resistance properties. Apply two coats of WATERGUARD CL on the affected area including all „j? hooks. In case of gable end, apply the product over the junction of wall and sheet.
  • Rising ground water level in our basement is causing dampness on our walls. How do I treat this problem?

This problem of dampness occurs due to capillary action, if a damp proofing course is not provided above the plinth level during construction. However this problem can be solved on temporary basis by applying two coats of WATERGARD DAMPROOF on the wet surface from the inside. In due course of time, when the water table is low, permanent solution should be arrived in consultation with an expert.
  • Our hotel in Kanpur has a swimming pool on the 5th floor. Due to poor waterproofing there is leakage into the guest rooms under the pool. How do we treat the same?

This is a very complicated problem and should be discussed with a qualified consultant before any treatment is decided. In case of consultant advises to break the existing tiles from inside and do the treatment, we can recommended. We can recommend our WATERGUARD S which is high performance two component cementitious acrylic based waterproof coating. Since WATERGUARD S is good for the negative side pressure also, it can also be applied to the bottom of swimming pool tank. However, the decision in this regard should be taken in construction with a competent consultant.
  • Due to a hole in our water tank water is flowing continuously on to our terrace. This is an emergency, what do I do?

This leakage can be immediately stopped by using a leak plugging compound called WATER PLUG. However this is a temporary solution and a permanent repair method has to be adopted.
  • Is there a water repellant coating that is clear and transparent that I can use to protect my beautifully painted farmhouse without spoiling the looks?

Yes, WATERREPELL’S is a clear silicone based water repellent coating which when applied on a painted surface / stone cladding wall, does not allow water to impregnate and keeps the surface texture / colour unaffected.
  • There is a leakage problem in my balcony. How do I solve this problem?

Concreting of slab to be done with admixed FAIRCRETE RMW with proper compaction. Any crack observed is to be sealed with crackseal. • I am constructing a new house. How do I waterproof my plaster and concrete?

Normal concrete or plaster is porous in nature and thus becomes an easy source of water percolation because of interlinking pores presenting it. FAIRCRETE RMW generates micro bubbles during mixing and hence breaks these continuous pores, present in concrete or plaster, making then durable and waterproof. Just 150 ml of FAIRCRETE RMW is enough for a 50 kg bag of cement. It is a unique formula that makes the mortar cohesive and thus waterproof. FAIRCRETE RMW can also be used in screed / IPS for making it dense and watertight.
  • I am planning to build a farmhouse in Goa with a basement. How can I effectively waterproof this area?

A damp proofing needs to be provided between the basement slab and wall. Once the basement is over, give a waterproof coating of WATERGUARD CL on external surface of the wall to prevent water from penetrating inside. Provide sufficient number of nozzle during casting of basement slab for grouting. Once the concrete is set, add FAIRPLAST IP to the cement slurry in the ratio 200 gm per 50 kg bag of cement, and grout through the nozzle using a grouting pump. This will seal porosity in the concrete. Apply WATERGUARD A which is a high performance cementitious polymer modified coating that withstands negative water pressure, in 2 to 3 coats from the inside on the basement floor & walls atleast 1 feet above ground level. Allow this coating to air cure for 72 hours. Then apply bond coat- prepared with FAIRCRETE SB(L) and carry out plastering when the bond coat is tack. For base floor, suitable system like IPS, Tiling can be done.
  • I am laying a brickbat coba on my terrace. However, I believe this is an age of method and may not be 100% effective in the long term. What should I do to make it completely waterproof?

Laying of brickbat coba is a lenghthy process. To minimize the voids and cracks in the coba, FAIRCRETE RMW should be used with cement mortar (150 ml of per 50 kg bag of cement) to make this system more impermeable. Two coats of FAIRCRETE SB(L) mixed with cement ( in the ratio of 1:1 by volume) can be applied over the cleaned terrace for better results. This will provide additional impermeable layer below brickbat coba. The work of brickbat coba can be started after 72 hours of final coat of FAIRCRETE SB(L).
